Veterinary Cardiology focuses on the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of diseases of the heart and cardiovascular system. Early diagnosis helps slow the progression of disease and significantly improve quality of life.
Em que consiste
Heart disease can affect animals of any age or breed, and is particularly common in geriatric patients and in certain genetically predisposed breeds.
Quando é indicada
It is indicated when the animal shows persistent coughing, breathing difficulty, tiring easily, exercise intolerance, fainting, bluish tongue or gums, rapid breathing or a heart murmur detected during a check-up. It is also recommended for preventive assessment of predisposed breeds or before anaesthetic procedures.
Como é realizada na clínica
The assessment includes a detailed physical exam, cardiac auscultation and, when indicated, further tests such as echocardiography, chest X-ray, electrocardiogram and blood pressure measurement. Based on the results, a treatment and follow-up plan is defined for each patient.
